The hunt is on for three suspects following a Facebook Marketplace robbery.

A 25-year-old Mayaro man made arrangements to meet with a potential buyer for items advertised on the platform.

Around 11:45am yesterday, he went to Plaisance Terrace, Laventille, where he was approached by three men who announced a hold-up.

The victim was relieved of $7,000 in cash, two gold chains, eight HY movie projectors, an iPhone, and other personal items.

The TTPS says this incident is one of several recently reported crimes initiated through Facebook Marketplace transactions.

It is urging persons to use designated โ€œSafe Exchange Zonesโ€ when conducting such transactions.

These can include police stations, well-lit public spaces, and locations equipped with CCTV cameras.

Persons are also advised to exercise caution when dealing with individuals who refuse to meet at such locations.

Also, when conducting transactions on online marketplaces, the following safety tips should be considered:

โ€ข Review the profile of the buyer or seller for authenticity.
โ€ข Check for reviews or ratings that may indicate suspicious behaviour.
โ€ข Be wary of unusually low prices, as they may signal a scam.
โ€ข Arrange meetings during daylight hours in public places with high foot traffic, and avoid isolated areas.
โ€ข Always inspect items before making payment and use secure payment options where possible.
โ€ข Consider bringing a friend or relative along for additional safety.
โ€ข Refrain from handing over items until payment has been received and verified.
โ€ข Avoid carrying substantial amounts of cash on your person.
