Machel Montano’s journey from T&T to international soca stardom will be showcased in a new Brooklyn exhibition.
“The Journey of a Soca King: The Exhibition” will run from August 22nd to September 12th, at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library.
It will feature costumes, trophies, vinyl records and other memorabilia tracing Montano’s career from a seven-year-old performer to an internationally recognised soca star.
Montano’s connection to Brooklyn dates back more than 40 years, where he attended music workshops as a child and later performed at Madison Square Garden with calypso legends.
He also recorded his first Road March-winning song, “Big Truck,” in Brooklyn. Montano said he hopes the exhibition will inspire young people to value their culture and recognise its impact around the world.
