In Guyana, the Commission of Inquiry probing the MV Barima tragedy has conducted its first site visits.
Today, the Commission’s members stopped at the Transport and Harbours Department Head Office, where they met with the General Manager, Yolanda Hughes.
There were also separate visits to the Maritime Administration Department and the Transport and Harbour Goods wharf.
Public hearings for the COI are due to begin on October 14th, with more than 100 witnesses expected to testify.
The vessel capsized on July 18th while traveling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
The exact death toll remains unknown, however 73 bodies have so far been recovered.
