UWI St. Augustine and the T&T Football Association have signed a four-year MoU to strengthen football development, education, research and professional capacity in Trinidad and Tobago.
Signed on September 11th, the agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between the university’s Faculty of Sport and Department of Management Studies and the TTFA’s academies, administration and national teams.
UWI says the partnership will create opportunities to connect its academic and research expertise with the practical needs of the football sector, while expanding opportunities for student development and professional training.
The collaboration will span football, futsal, beach soccer, eFootball, youth football and high-performance programmes.
Key areas of cooperation will include joint seminars and workshops, coaching education, professional development, technical support and knowledge exchange, bringing academic expertise and practical experience together across different areas of the game.
In a statement, UWI says “A significant component of the agreement is the creation of opportunities for UWI students to gain practical experience in the football sector. These may include internships, practica, electives, research opportunities and match-day volunteering with the TTFA also committing to give UWI students priority consideration for internships and related opportunities.”
“Beyond student development, the partnership will support training and capacity-building in areas critical to the administration and development of sport including sports science, sport management, anti-doping, refereeing, safeguarding, nutrition, ethics, governance, financial management and athlete preparation,” it adds.
