Government will bring legislation seeking to guarantee Tobago two seats in the Senate.

This was announced by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar during the official opening of the East Terminal at the ANR Robinson International Airport.

Under the planned proposal, the two positions will be appointed by the President.

Also speaking was THA Chief Secretary, Farley Augustine, who lamented that some Tobagonians had to be displaced to allow construction of the terminal, while others were left poorer or had to fight for proper compensation.

He then announced a housing scheme for those affected.

The Chief Secretary said the THA will also approach the Cabinet for approval to repurpose the airport’s existing West Terminal.

The vision is for the this to be transformed into a centre for private aviation, cargo operations and training opportunities for Tobagonians interested in the aviation industry.

Following this event, many attendees headed over to Signal Hill for the handover for the first of three joint police/army posts in Tobago.

Speaking at this time was Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro, who assured the Units will ensure officers are among the people, where they are most needed.
