The Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce says mandatory income tax filing could generate millions of dollars in additional Government revenue.
First Vice-President Amit Dass says the measure, announced in yesterday’s fiscal package, could bring more individuals and small business operators into the tax system.
He also believes upgrades to the Board of Inland Revenue’s GenTax system will strengthen tax monitoring and compliance.
Meanwhile, the Chamber is calling for increased natural gas supplies to revive industrial activity and create jobs in the Couva-Point Lisas area.
Second Vice-President Anissa Ali also welcomed improved foreign exchange access for small and medium-sized businesses through the Exim Bank.
