The Equal Opportunity Tribunal is marking a major milestone in 2026, celebrating 25 years since the proclamation of the Equal Opportunity Act in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Tribunal stated in a media release, that the anniversary reflects the country’s ongoing commitment to equality, inclusion, and protection against discrimination on grounds such as race, ethnicity, religion, sex, and status.
Over the past quarter century, it has provided a formal channel for citizens to seek redress and has helped promote fairness and accountability across workplaces and institutions.
In its January–April 2026 newsletter, the Tribunal highlights ongoing court matters involving alleged discrimination, as well as its broader role in shaping public awareness of rights.
Looking ahead, the Tribunal says it plans to improve access to justice through initiatives such as a proposed Legal Clinic, a Sub-Registry, expanded public education, and digital outreach.
It adds that its focus remains on strengthening efficiency, accessibility, and trust in the justice system, while ensuring equal opportunity for all citizens under the law.
