The National Carnival Commission is continuing its Carnival 365 outreach with a major cultural showcase in Point Fortin over the Borough Day weekend.
In a statement, the NCC said it hosted two free public events as part of the celebrations, bringing traditional Carnival characters and stick fighting action to the forefront.
On May 1st, the “Welcome to the Gayelle – Point Fortin” competition was held at the Guapo Recreational Ground, where National Stick Fighting Champion Selwyn John delivered a dominant performance to claim the title and a $10,000 prize.
Daniel Barclay placed second, while Ainsley Alcia finished third after strong showings.
The NCC says the event forms part of its ongoing Carnival 365 initiative, aimed at keeping cultural traditions active year-round across communities.
