Electricity Power Outage

T&TEC says issues experienced by an independent power producer led to electricity disruptions in several communities across Trinidad this morning.

The outage began around 4:45am, with full restoration by 6:29am.

The affected areas included:
Piarco, St. Augustine, Caroni, Valsayn, Chaguanas, Manzanilla, Freeport, Port of Spain, Biche, Craignish, Brickfield, Sangre Grande, Trincity, Fyzabad, Arouca, Charlieville, Cunupia, Orange Grove, Sea Lots, Chaguaramas, Rio Claro, Longdenville and Malabar.

T&TEC says the disruption stemmed from two generator trips at one of the IPPs.

This is not the first time such trips have led to outages, and the Commission says it continues to work closely with the IPPs to review these events, address underlying causes, and implement preventative measures to minimise the risk of recurrence.
