The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has appointed Derek King as head coach of the senior men’s national team on a full-time basis, ending months of uncertainty over the position.
King, who had been serving as interim head coach since March, has signed a one-year contract with an option for renewal.
The appointment marks his first permanent stint in charge, following an interim role in 2024 and prior service as an assistant in earlier national programmes.
TTFA president Kieron Edwards said the decision was rooted in continuity and trust in King’s familiarity with the team environment.
“Derek has been part of the system and understands what is required at this level. We are looking for consistency, discipline, and a clear direction,” Edwards said.
King now faces an immediate test, with Trinidad and Tobago scheduled to face South Korea in an international friendly on May 30 in Utah, followed by an away fixture against Russia on June 9.
In accepting the role, King described the appointment as an honour and pledged to build a disciplined and competitive unit.
“Our objective is to compete, improve, and make the people of Trinidad and Tobago proud,” he said.
King’s résumé includes domestic league titles with Joe Public and North East Stars, as well as the 2014 Caribbean Under-20 crown, as he prepares the team for the Concacaf Nations League in September.
