The TTPS says while protests are not banned during the State of Emergency, all public gatherings must follow Emergency Powers Regulations.
This follows yesterday’s protest outside the Police Administration Building, where nearly 200 supporters of Kaia Sealy and Joshua Samaroo gathered, calling for murder charges against officers involved in Samaroo’s shooting death.
Officers moved to disperse the gathering over concerns about public safety and maintaining order.
The TTPS is reminding the public that police have expanded powers under the SOE, including the authority to restrict assemblies, search individuals, and make arrests where necessary.
The Service is also warning that breaches of the regulations can result in heavy fines and prison sentences.
