Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath has dismissed Opposition claims of an “employment racket” at WASA, saying he is satisfied with the Authority’s hiring process.

This came in response to allegations by Opposition Chief Whip Marvin Gonzales that bloggers were hired as part of a political propaganda operation.

According to a T&T Express report, Minister Padarath says all employees went through the proper recruitment process, adding that his responsibility as line minister for WASA does not extend to the authority’s day-to-day operations.

In a Facebook post, MP Marvin Gonzales claimed WASA’s hiring process could cost taxpayers about $80 million a year.

He added that the money is not being used to improve water services, but instead to fund what he describes as a propaganda operation targeting critics of the Government.
