The TTPS has officially launched its Active Directed Patrol Initiative, a new crime-fighting strategy, aimed at improving public safety, visibility, and response times across the country.
The initiative will use the National Operations Centre as a central hub, integrating tools such as CCTV monitoring, GPS tracking of patrol units, body-worn cameras, drone footage, and crime data analysis systems.
The launch took place today at the Police Academy Barracks in St James.
Speaking at at the launch, retired DCP McDonald Jacob, consultant on the project, said the system will improve coordination between divisions, emergency services, and specialist units.
This, he says will allow for faster and more targeted police responses.
Mr Jacob said the pilot project in 2022 reportedly led to the recovery of several illegal firearms, with the programme now being expanded nationwide.
This will include Trinidad and Tobago’s highways, urban areas, transit routes, and Tobago.
