The 23-year-old Venezuelan woman accused of abandoning her newborn baby has been granted $60,000 bail.
She appeared in the Siparia Court yesterday, charged with cruelty to a child and wasteful deployment of police.
The matter has been transferred to the Magistrates’ Court and adjourned to October 5th.
The infant remains at the Point Fortin Hospital.
According to police, the woman claimed she found an abandoned newborn on St Mary’s Road and took the baby to the Oropouche Police Station.
The infant was taken to hospital, but investigators later determined that the woman was the child’s mother, leading to the charges.
