The Energy Ministry says the Mining and Processing Licences issued to the Studley Park Enterprise Limited will help support economic activity in Tobago.

The signing for both were presided over by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar during her visit to Tobago last week.

SPEL manages the Studley Park Quarry and is wholly-owned by the Tobago House of Assembly.

The Ministry says its successful operation can therefore support both local economic activity and returns to a Tobago-owned public enterprise.

Tobago is expected to benefit in several areas as a result, including:

  • Support to Existing and New Employment
  • Enabling Investment and Increased Production
  • Improved Availability of Construction Materials
  • Potential for Regional Exports and Foreign Exchange Earnings
  • New business opportunities for Tobago-based suppliers in areas such as haulage, maintenance, logistics, welding, operating supplies, security, catering and cleaning.
  • Strict controls for dust, noise, blasting and progressive rehabilitation to protect Tobago’s tourism and ecosystems.
