Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis has been elected Political Leader of the Tobago Council of the People’s National Movement.
The election was conducted on Sunday, with Mrs Cudjoe-Lewis receiving 63% of the votes, with 37% to Kelvon Morris.
In a statement, Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis thanked members for turning out and exercising their democratic right, saying their participation keeps the party strong and grounded in the people.
“To everyone who supported, encouraged, and stood with me throughout this journey, I am deeply grateful. This is not just about one person, this is about all of us working together to restore trust, unite our membership, and build a stronger, more modern PNM,” she stated.
She said the victory is about restoring trust, uniting the membership, and building a stronger, more modern PNM.
Cudjoe-Lewis added that the work continues as the party moves forward with purpose.
The newly-elected Political Leader of the Tobago Council received congratulations from PNM Political Leader Penelope Beckles-Robinson.
“Ms. Cudjoe-Lewis has made history, becoming only the second woman to hold this position at a time when the movement is in a critical phase of rebuilding,” she stated.
“I welcome this result as Ms. Cudjoe-Lewis assumes the role of Deputy Political Leader for Tobago Affairs within our party structure. She comes ready, committed to energizing our movement as we re-engage the people of Trinidad and Tobago, guided by the strength and perspective of women’s leadership.”
Mrs Beckles-Robinson also extended thanks to defeated candidate Kelvon Morris and everyone who contested the election.
“I also record my sincere thanks and commendation to Kelvon Morris, who offered himself for service to our beloved party and to the people of Tobago,” she stated.
“I congratulate all those who successfully contested the 16 positions in this election, and I thank every individual who offered themselves for service.”
Former Chief Secretary Ancil Dennis extended his congratulations to Mrs Cudjoe-Lewis and stated his continued commitment to the party.
“I wish them success as they undertake their responsibilities. Leadership transitions are an important part of any democratic organization, and I am grateful for the opportunity I had to serve during my time,” he stated.
“As I close this chapter, I remain committed to public service, personal growth, and contributing positively wherever I can. I wish the new leadership wisdom, strength, and unity in the work ahead.”
