The Leader of the Opposition in Trinidad and Tobago, Pennelope Beckles, has extended congratulations to Prime Minister Gaston Browne following his electoral victory in Antigua and Barbuda.

In a statement, Beckles, speaking on behalf of the People’s National Movement, said the result reflects continued public confidence in Prime Minister Browne’s leadership and his work in national development and regional cooperation.

“This outcome reflects the continued confidence of the Antiguan and Barbudan people in Prime Minister Browne’s leadership and his commitment to national development and regional cooperation,” she said.

“Prime Minister Browne first assumed office on June 13, 2014, and has since played a central role in shaping the modern development trajectory of Antigua and Barbuda. His tenure has been marked by economic initiatives aimed at growth and resilience, as well as active engagement within CARICOM and the wider international community on issues affecting Small Island Developing States.”

She noted that since taking office in 2014, Browne has played a key role in shaping Antigua and Barbuda’s development path, with a focus on economic growth and resilience, while also engaging actively within CARICOM and the wider international community.

Beckles said Trinidad and Tobago looks forward to continued collaboration, and wished the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda success.

“The people of Antigua and Barbuda have once again demonstrated their steadfast commitment to democracy. As fellow Small Island Developing States within CARICOM, our nations remain united in purpose, working together to advance economic resilience, social progress and regional solidarity,” she said.

“We wish the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda every success and reaffirm our commitment to deepening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two countries.”
