Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says her second term leadership style—what the UNC calls “KPB 2.0”—is more stoic, hard-nosed and focused on protecting law-abiding citizens.
In a Trinidad Express interview, she said she is no longer trying to please everyone and warned, “It is either peace or total war, no in-between.”
The Prime Minister said criminals and those who threaten stability will face strong action.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar defended criticism of her tone, saying diplomacy should not be mistaken for weakness.
She insisted she takes advice from qualified and fair-minded people, not what she called “trolls, haters and pseudo-intellectuals.”
On crime, the Prime Minister said murders are down 42 per cent, serious crimes down 30 per cent and violent crimes down 32 per cent.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar also backed National Security Minister Roger Alexander and Justice Minister Wayne Sturge for their performance.
The Prime Minister also defended the use of the State of Emergency, calling it a necessary tool—not a permanent solution—and said government would continue using every lawful measure against criminals.
