T&TEC says a significant voltage dip experienced this morning was the work of a vandal.

Around 9:45am, the perpetrator went to the Brechin Castle 220/132/66 kV Substation, where he came into contact with a 132 kV Breaker.

This contact caused a fault, resulting in the voltage dip.

The man fell to the ground after receiving an electric shock, but eventually got to his feet and escaped without his tools.

He was held a short while later and had to be treated for severe burns.

T&TEC says widespread outages were prevented because the system’s protective mechanisms operated as intended and minimised the impact.

It is again warning that tampering or interfering with its infrastructure can cause physical harm, including electrocution and serious injury.
