Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has hit back at those opposed to the removal of “violent, disrespectful” students from schools.
In a strongly worded statement on social media, she challenged critics to “take them into your own homes, with your own families, and deal with them.”
The Prime Minister says thousands of children go to school each day “in fear because violent students are waiting in schools to beat, rob, harass and terrorise them.”
She adds that their education suffers because they are unable to study properly because of fear, despair and depression.
She remembered Jayden Lalchan, who took his own life at 15-years-old because of bullying, and accused TTUTA, the NPTA and previous administration of doing nothing to address the issue.
The statement ended with “Good, hardworking, law-abiding citizens and their diligent, disciplined children, who try to live productive lives, should not be made to suffer because of the wicked, uncaring actions of others.”
