The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services has officially launched the Mindful Me Journal in schools across Port of Spain and Environs to help students manage school and exam-related stress.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, was introduced at the Government Complex Plaza Auditorium on Richmond Street.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, Vandana Mohit, said children’s mental and emotional well-being must remain a national priority.
She referenced the recent tragic death of a teenager linked to examination anxiety, saying the journal reflects Government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children.
“These are not distant issues. They are real challenges affecting children and families across our country. While academic success is important, the pressures surrounding examinations, particularly at the primary and secondary levels, can be overwhelming. When combined with societal expectations, these pressures can result in stress, anxiety, and fear of failure, burdens that many children carry quietly,” she said.
The age-appropriate journal is designed to help students understand emotions, manage stress and build resilience during exams.
The programme also supports Government’s wider child development strategy, including plans for a National Child Poverty Reduction Strategy.
