Joshua Da Silva’s first career double hundred helped T&T Red Force tighten their grip on their West Indies Championship match against the Leeward Islands on Monday at St John’s, Antigua.

Da Silva hit 220 not out to lead his team to 522 for 9 declared at the world famous Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG).

The Leeward Islands closed on 88 for 4 at stumps, still 434 runs adrift of Trinidad and Tobago’s total.

Anderson Phillip took two wickets, with Joshua James and Khary Pierre also making breakthroughs.

Da Silva said it was a “special feeling” to get his first double hundred at the ARG.

“This is the first time I have ever seen this ground in person. To see where Brian Lara broke two world records was tremendous. He is a legend of West Indies cricket and the world. So, to be able to cross three figures here and also bring up my first century is a special feeling. There are a lot of emotions in it and I am happy I can do it for the team,” he told Windies Cricket.

On the match situation, the Trinidad and Tobago captain expects it will be a tough slog for his bowlers on a typically docile ARG track.

“Its not going to be easy at all. The pitch is still a really good pitch and we have to put the balls in the right areas for a long period of time,” he said.

“It’s going to be a toiling pitch for the bowlers. Those four wickets were extremely important—a bit of tired legs from them, I’m guessing. We will have some rest. They will have some rest, and its going to be a good fight going on.”
