A monument celebrating the 250th anniversary of legal protection of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve in Tobago was unveiled on Thursday.
The 1776 Ordinance Replica was revealed at the Main Ridge Orientation Centre, after a cultural parade featuring the best of Tobago culture.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine said the decision to pass legislation to preserve the Main Ridge Forest Reserve in 1776 illustrates how Tobago is can lead the way in global issues.
“That is an example of Tobago being small but being able to lead the world in something so big and so important. Long before it was felt that it was important to protect forests, Tobago was doing it,” he said.
“I want you to appreciate that Tobago is a leader when it comes to preserving our environment.”
