Las Cuevas is experiencing a peak in Leatherback turtle nesting, with over 300 turtles coming ashore in the past week, bringing the season total to more than 1,300.
In a Facebook post, Tourism Trinidad says similar activity is being seen at other nesting sites across Trinidad and Tobago.
As this is a critical time for the species, visitors are urged to keep their distance, avoid lights and flash photography, and follow wardens’ guidance.
This year’s nesting season runs from March 1st to August 31st.
