Venezuela has been rocked by two powerful earthquakes.
The Associated Press says the epicenter was west of the community of MorĂłn, about 168 kilometers west of Caracas.Â
Several buildings in the capital reportedly collapsed.
Tsunami advisories were also triggered for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, as per the National Weather Service’s U.S. Tsunami Warning System.
There was speculation regarding T&T, however the UWI Seismic Research Centre subsequently stated, “Please be advised there is NO tsunami threat for Trinidad and Tobago at this time following the magnitude 7.1 event off the coast of Venezuela.”
This first tremor in Venezuela was followed by a second powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the second quake had a depth of 10 kilometers and its epicenter was 16 kilomoters southwest of MorĂłn.
