The Government will return to Parliament this week, to seek a three-month extension of the State of Emergency.
The decision follows a meeting of the National Security Council on Friday, where members reviewed reports on the States of Emergency in effect between December 2024 and May 2026.
According to the Office of the Attorney General, all three periods under emergency measures were linked to significant disruptions of local and international threats to national security.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Leader says the party will not support the Government’s proposed extension of the State of Emergency.
In a statement posted on social media, Mrs Beckles-Robinson criticized the move, saying the Government lacks a crime plan.
She accused the Government of restricting citizens’ freedoms while failing to address crime effectively, saying “T&T is a democracy, not a police state”.
