The US and several partner countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, have issued a joint statement, condemning what they describe as attempts to overthrow Bolivia’s elected government.
The statement, released by the US State Department, says members of the “Shield of the Americas,” support President Rodrigo Paz and his administration, amid ongoing political unrest.
It claims that protest organisers are using fake road blockades to disrupt food and medicine supplies, and says those financing violence with links to drug trafficking and transnational crime should be held accountable.
The group is urging dialogue, while rejecting what it calls efforts to undermine Bolivia’s democratic process.
