While warrants have been issued for the arrest of Kaia Sealy, the Police Complaints Authority says its probe into the police-involved shooting of Joshua Samaroo remains active.

The PCA, which is a body independent of the Police Service, made this clarification in a media statement.

It says incidents of this nature highlight why it has consistently advocated for the use of body-worn cameras by police officers.

It says these devices will provide an objective record of events, helping to reduce discrepancies and speculation, such as in this matter.

There is no body-worn camera footage in this case, however the PCA says its investigators are actively examining other evidence to get greater clarity regarding the sequence of events.

Samaroo was killed and Sealy injured, after a chase involving police that started in Maloney and ended in St Augustine on January 20th 2026.

Yesterday, the TTPS announced that warrants had been issued for Sealy’s arrest on charges of shooting at officers and manslaughter.

According to reports, an extradition is being sought, as Sealy left the country about a month ago.
