The parliamentary committee examining the State’s Acquisition of Pharmaceuticals was postponed yesterday with the chairman Jagdeo Singh issuing an apology.
Mr Singh said despite the presence of all members, something “regrettable” occurred.
“I cannot go into the reasons why. The members, we have had an extensive discussion among ourselves. I do not propose to go into the reasons why. All I can say, is to use the neutral phrase, ‘It is regrettable but unavoidable that we have to adjourn,’” he said during a live broadcast.
The Committee, which is considering the current processes applicable to the importation and approval of pharmaceuticals, will next meet on April 27th at 1pm
In past hearings, the Inquiry, which is led by Chairman Jagdeo Singh, has questioned NIPDEC officials over prioritizing payments to specific suppliers based on instructions from the Ministry of Health.
Concerns have also been raised during the inquiry over the shift from four to over 3,000 special import permits.
