The Finance Minister today laid the Finance Bill 2026 in the House.

The legislation includes measures aimed at advancing key government policies, including tax exemptions for approved pension fund and deferred annuity plans, pension reform for members of the protective services, revisions to gaming taxes under the Liquor Licences Act, and amendments to the Landlord Business Surcharge.

The bill also proposes tougher criminal penalties for a wide range of offences as part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to combat crime.

The Finance Bill 2026 is scheduled for debate in the House of Representatives on June 10th and is expected to be considered by the Standing Finance Committee on June 12th.

Meanwhile, Opposition MP Colm Imbert is warning citizens to brace for a series of higher fines and penalties proposed by the Government in the Finance Bill 2026.

Speaking after the bill was laid in Parliament, he noted that it contains a wide range of increases in fines across several areas.

Further details on the measures would be outlined as the debate progresses.
