Cutting edge laser technology is being deployed to clamp down on speeding.
Today, the TTPS rolled out the Lidar Speed Enforcement Devices, during an event at the Audrey Jeffers Highway Layby.
These devices can be used from inside police vehicles to identify motorists who continue to break the law by speeding.
They can also capture vehicle registration plates at night, when most speeding offences take place.
At todayโs event, Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro said there have been 42% less Fatal Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) to date for 2026, compared with the same period last year.
There have also been 51% less Road Traffic Accidents compared with the same period last year.
Also speaking at the event was Transport Minister, Eli Zakour, who said these new tools will support the broader National Road Safety strategy aimed at changing behaviours and saving lives.
Todayโs launch coincides with the final day of the United Nationโs Road Safety Week observances.
The TTPS says it has rolled out several road safety initiatives and campaigns on social and traditional media, aimed at raising awareness about responsible and safe road use.
