A male Prisons Officer with 12 years of service, had been detained as part of an investigation into contraband trafficking.

The arrest was made outside the Golden Grove Prison today and follows the recent arrest of a female Prisons Officer in connection with the alleged trafficking of prohibited articles into the prison.

The officer is now currently being held at the Eastern Correctional and Rehabilitation Center.

The Prison Service says police investigations remain ongoing and charges are expected to be laid.

Acting Prisons Commissioner, Elvin Scanterbury, has issued a strong warning that there will be zero tolerance for any Prisons Officer involved in contraband trafficking.

He added that any Prisons Officer found culpable of facilitating, participating in, or otherwise assisting in the trafficking of contraband into or within prisons will face the full brunt of the law, regardless of rank, position or length of service.
