As thousands of children begin the new academic year today, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is reminding students that life can be difficult without a good education.
She is urging them to be ready to learn, attend classes regularly, remain disciplined and respect teachers and school staff.
The Prime Minister says a good education gives young people more options to deal with life’s challenges.
She is also calling for zero tolerance for disruptive behaviour, telling teachers to send misbehaving students home if necessary adding that those who face threats or abuse should contact the police and allow law enforcement to deal with the matter.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar is urging parents to prepare their children for school, teach them discipline and responsibility, and monitor their behaviour and progress.
She says parents should work closely with teachers and take responsibility for their children’s education and upbringing.
