Couva South MP Barry Padarath is defending the Prime Minister’s Independence Day message to UNC supporters, in the wake of criticism.
In a statement, he said Mrs. Persad-Bissessar’s message was intended to strengthen the party membership and was not directed at any section of society based on race.
He accused some of the PM’s critics of previously seeking political favour and validation from the PNM, while failing to speak out against what he described as injustices faced by marginalised communities.
Mr. Padarath instead insisted that the UNC will continue to defend its political leader, party and policies against what he described as unfair criticism.
