Dozens of new attorneys have been called to the bar, and they have since been urged to remember the importance of integrity in their profession.
At today’s Bar Admissions Ceremony at the Hall of Justice, Justice Frank Seepersad reminded that integrity is not incidental to the profession, but instead, is its foundation.
He said, “Those who seek your assistance will often do so during periods of vulnerability, uncertainty, and distress. In such moments, honesty is not optional. You must possess the discipline and professional courage to provide advice grounded in law and principle, rather than guidance shaped by convenience, popularity, or financial incentive.”
“Justice is sustained not by legislation alone, but by the collective willingness of institutions and professionals alike to uphold fairness, accountability, restraint, and respect for human dignity. Public confidence in democratic institutions is ultimately earned and preserved when principled professionals discharge their obligations with integrity, competence, discipline, and independence. This profession will therefore test not only your intellect and advocacy, but also your judgment, your restraint, and your fidelity to the constitutional values upon which the administration of justice depends,” he added.
