Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen says funds have already been issued to pay civil servants at the Port of Spain City Corporation.
As such, she has rejected claims by Mayor Chinua Alleyne about possible salary payment issues for civil servants, adding that there was no consultation with the Ministry.
Responding to questions from 103.1FM News, Minister Ameen confirmed that funds have already been released, following approval of the Mid-Year Review.
Minister Ameen accused the Corporation of “playing petty politics” and insisted that workers must be paid on time.
Minister Ameen also criticised the timing of the statements, noting that they come during celebrations marking the 112th anniversary of Port of Spain and accused the Mayor of poor prioritization.
