Inmates sentenced to hard labour could soon be deployed to help upkeep public spaces.

This was revealed today by Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander, who described the prison population as “one of the largest labour force”.

He added that the initiative would also help inmates reintegrate into society.

The Minister also reportedly said work to implement the initiative was already underway, though he did not give a timeline.

Mr Alexander was speaking during a visit to the National Programme for the Upkeep of Public Spaces in Tunapuna today.
