A 30-year-old woman was held as police seized a high-powered rifle and 19 rounds of ammunition.
During an intelligence-led operation yesterday, officers went to Mamoral No. 1, where they observed two persons inside a white Kia K2700 vehicle.
As the officers approached, a male suspect exited and fled the scene.
The officers then engaged the woman and informed her of their intention to search the vehicle.
The TTPS says, “Due to poor lighting conditions and in the interest of officer safety, the vehicle was transported to the Chaguanas Police Station, where a detailed search was conducted in the presence of the woman. During the search, officers discovered an AK-type rifle fitted with a folding metal stock, together with a magazine containing nineteen (19) rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition.”
Both were found concealed behind the driver’s seat.
The woman, of Mamoral Main Road, Mamoral No. 1, was arrested for possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
She remains in police custody as investigations continue.
