Four persons have been charged following a scuffle with police during the Tribe band launch at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
The TTPS says officers were on duty providing security and monitoring compliance with the event’s entertainment licence, which required an end to amplified music at 2am on Sunday.
The DJ stopped at the required time, however a short while later, live musical performances were observed.
It claims when attempts were made to engage the performing groups, several persons became confrontational.
One police officer was reportedly assaulted while trying to effect an arrest and had to be taken for medical treatment.
One of the accused was also medically examined.
Four persons were held and have since been charged with: obscene Language; Disorderly Behaviour; and Resisting Arrest.
One accused was also charged with Assaulting a Police Officer.
All were granted station bail and are expected to appear before the court on a date to be determined.
Regarding the incident, the Service said, “The TTPS reminds members of the public that police officers have a legal duty to enforce the conditions attached to public events and entertainment licences, including prescribed closing times established in the interest of public order and safety. While the TTPS remains committed to facilitating safe and enjoyable public events, the Service will not tolerate assaults on police officers or any conduct that obstructs officers in the lawful execution of their duties.”
