The Ebola outbreak in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has been declared as a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization.

However, it has added that it does not meet the criteria of a pandemic emergency.

BBC News reported that the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has seen around 390 suspected cases and at least 100 reported deaths.

The current strain of the virus has no approved drugs or vaccines.

Two other neighbours, Rwanda and South Sudan has also been placed on “high alert”.
