UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, will make a one-day visit to Haiti next week, amid ongoing gang violence and instability.
During the visit on Tuesday, he is expected to meet with the Prime Minister and displaced residents, including women and girls who have been “disproportionately affected by the violence”.
The UN Chief is also expected to assess the international response to the crisis and review the early deployment of the UN-authorized Gang Suppression Force, as Haiti prepares for elections.
The Secretary-General will travel to Haiti via the Dominican Republic, and while in Santo Domingo, he is expected to meet with national authorities.
