The TTPS has issued an advisory regarding a proposed Walk For Peace in Port of Spain today.

In a statement, it says while it fully supports legitimate initiatives aimed at fostering peace, reducing violence, and encouraging positive community engagement, T&T remains under a State of Emergency, which means all public gatherings, marches, processions, and assemblies are subject to strict legal requirements.

According to the TTPS, no authorization has been granted for any public march or procession associated with this event.

As such, it says any attempt to organize or participate in an unauthorized march along public roadways may constitute a breach of the applicable laws and regulations currently in force.

It also expressed concerns regarding: the proposed assembly point at Piccadilly Street; the potential for large, uncoordinated gatherings which may create risks for participants, motorists, businesses, and others; and the current SoE environment which it says requires law enforcement to maintain heightened vigilance and exercise appropriate control measures in the interest of public safety and national security.

The TTPS statement goes on to urge persons to: refrain from participating in any unauthorized march or road procession; and to comply promptly with all lawful instructions issued by officers.
