T&T has been elected to the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term.
In order to secure the seat, T&T had to secure the support of a two-thirds majority of UN member states, which is approximately 129 countries.
At the vote earlier this morning, this country secured 181 votes out of 190 countries, including votes from all five permanent members of the Council.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the theme for T&T’s UNSC campaign was “Building Consensus for the Realization of Sustainable Peace and Security.
This is focused on three strategic pillars: curbing the illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons; Women and Children, Peace and Security; and artificial intelligence and global security.
