Trinidadian ship captain, 66-year-old Anthony Murray, who was among the six-member crew rescued from the fishing vessel ST Vincent VII, has died.
The Ministry of Defence said he was initially stable and showed no signs of pain or discomfort, but later exhibited shallow breathing and later became unresponsive while aboard the MV Marvel Kite.
The vessel was then diverted to St Vincent, where Captain Murray’s death will be formally declared and the remaining rescued crew will be medically examined.
According to the Ministry, following this, the men will be returned to Trinidad by the T&T Air Guard.
The Ministry also apologized for the delay in making the announcement, saying it first informed Captain Murray’s immediate family before releasing the news publicly.
Yesterday the Ministry had confirmed the fishermen were located by the US-bound MV Marvel Kite about 349 nautical miles east of Galeota, in reasonably good health.
