Driver’s licence holders are being reminded that permits can be renewed up to three months before their expiration date.
The reminder comes from the Transport Ministry, which says the extended renewal period follows an amendment to the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Regulations under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 48:50, by Legal Notice No. 48 of 2026.
Previously, driver’s licences could only be renewed one month prior to the expiration date.
As of March 16th 2026 the renewal period was extended, providing motorists with greater flexibility, helping to reduce last-minute renewals, and supporting more efficient service delivery.
The Ministry also reminds that motorists whose permits have been expired for no more than five years can apply for renewal online through its website.
This online renewal service is applicable to holders of Class 1 (motorcycles) and Class 3 (light motor vehicles).
