Three people have been charged following a major human trafficking investigation in Trinidad and Tobago Tobago.
The Counter Trafficking Unit says the charges stem from Operation Iceberg, which began with months of intelligence gathering and led to arrests in July.
The case involves a teenager who was allegedly lured to Trinidad by what appeared to be a legitimate employment opportunity, before being subjected to sexual exploitation.
During the Tobago phase of the operation, officers searched a residence in Signal Hill, where two Venezuelan women were encountered and screened, and a bar on Milford Road where Latin American women were screened by Immigration officials.
The three suspects will face charges related to harbouring a person for exploitation, while one of the suspects will also faces a charge of sexual penetration of a minor.
Under the Trafficking in Persons Act, a conviction on indictment can carry a fine of at least $500,000 and a minimum 15-year sentence.
