A suspected extortionist was shot and killed during a police-controlled payment operation in Tunapuna on Thursday, while two other suspects were arrested and a third remains on the run.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, a business owner reported being forced to pay one thousand eight hundred dollars over three weeks, with demands for an additional three thousand dollars monthly.

Officers of the Anti-Extortion Unit set up a sting operation using marked cash.

Around 4:15 p.m., 26-year-old Jaden Pierre of Edinburgh 500 reportedly arrived, collected the cash, and was confronted by police.

TTPS says Pierre pulled a firearm and pointed it at officers, who then opened fire, fatally wounding him.

A firearm and the marked cash were recovered. Meanwhile, police later arrested a man and woman in Charlieville linked to the case. Investigations continue.
