The Prison Officers’ Association is calling for urgent action to address, what it says are, major challenges facing T&T’s prison system.
In a social media post, the Association highlighted several issues across its correctional and detention institutions.
These include staffing shortages, outstanding overtime payments, delayed promotions, poor working conditions, and several safety compliance matters.
It also called for improvements in officers’ access to a Firearm User’s Licenses and upgrades to prison facilities, including security systems, communication equipment, and staff amenities.
The Association says this investment is needed to support the transition toward a modern Corrections Service, while improving officer safety, training, and overall prison operations.
