Desilting works are underway at the Bhagmania River along Pluck Road in Woodland as part of the Ministry of Works annual flood-mitigation programme.
The Drainage Division says the works are intended to improve water flow and reduce the risk of the river overtopping during heavy rainfall.
The project is expected to benefit Woodland and surrounding areas, including Debe, Picton, Golconda, the SS Erin Road and sections of the M2 Ring Road.
Meanwhile, in the Penal/Debe region, desilting works were completed yesterday along watercourses at Debe Trace.
Councillor Khemraj Seecharan said the works were carried out to help reduce the risk of flooding in Debe South, and this is now being put to the test as rains came down in the area this morning.
