Personal items found on beach, search continues for persons missing from capsized pirogue

The pirogue that capsized off the coast of Los Iros was leaving Trinidad and heading to Venezuela.

According to a female survivor, the boat left around 1pm on Wednesday, with  several adults and children on board.

About 5 minutes into the journey, the vessel started to sink. 

The woman told police that she was able to swim to shore with two of her children, ages 10 and 8.

Missing was her 6-year-old daughter, Brithanny Palacios, whose body was found along the shoreline on Thursday morning.

According to reports, another adult also died, while two other persons remain missing.

The Hunters Search and Rescue Team led by Vallence Rambharat continued search efforts today, along with the TTPS Coastal and Air Support Unit and the T&T Coast Guard.

A number of personal effects have been found along the beach, including clothing, toys and even a children’s toothbrush.
